Know Sooner and Be on the Cutting Edge of Your Health

Did you know?

A recent survey of racially mixed people living with T1D showed that almost none were aware of early screening options before diagnosis and ALL would recommend screening to family members or loved ones.

Kyler Cares believes that people of color can and should be at the cutting edge of their medical and health care. That is why we advocate for knowing sooner if they are at risk of developing T1D. Screening early before insulin dependency allows you and your loved ones to take control of their health—significantly reducing risk for diabetes ketoacidosis (DKA), enrolling in research and eligibility for treatments aimed to delay onset of T1D, and allowing plenty of time to plan and prepare for an eventual T1D diagnosis.

Screening for T1D early, before symptoms develop, can transform your experience and health outcomes related to the disease. T1D management is a steep learning curve and gives you and your caregivers precious time to prepare, plan, and seek interventions in advance of life-changing symptoms developing—easing whatever financial, emotional, and mental burdens you may face.

Most importantly, early screening can save lives and prevent severe health complications due to DKA,

in which uncontrolled hyperglycemia leads to a buildup of ketones in the bloodstream. DKA blindsides most people who have not experienced diabetic symptoms before ending up in the ER with severe nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, difficulty breathing, weakness, disorientation, or even loss of consciousness.

Take control of your health. Consult your doctor about early screening for T1D.
