Managing type 1 diabetes can be challenging, but you’re not alone.

At Kyler Cares we’re working to improve health outcomes for people of color living with diabetes by improving access to diabetes technology, creating connections to education and resources, and fostering community as an added system of support on our journeys.

Kyler Bear & Friends’ T1 Diaries is an eight-part animated series for kids, dedicated to storytelling about life with Type 1 Diabetes. Our series is more than just an educational tool; it’s a reflection of real-life stories and an avenue to strengthen community ties. It’s a vehicle for us to inspire young people to begin laying a foundation of knowledge and self-confidence with management of T1D that will resonate throughout their lives until a cure for the disease is discovered.

By supporting this series with a donation, you will be contributing to a project that not only educates and informs but also offers comfort and a sense of belonging to kids navigating life with T1D. ‘Kyler Bear’s T1 Diaries’ isn’t just a series; it’s a beacon of hope, a source of information, and a testament to the strength found in our amazing T1D community. Join us in bringing these stories to life

Community building and peer to peer relationships plays a pivotal role in supporting individuals living with Type 1 Diabetes. It provides emotional support, information sharing, motivation, and problem-solving opportunities. Kyler Cares is developing programs that foster environments for these types of relationships to blossom. Many people of color are not connected to others living with this chronic illness and we understand that these relationships are key to establishing and maintaining healthier glucose management practices, while also enhancing the overall well-being of individuals with T1D.

TECHNOLOGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

We hope to one day live in a world where access to proper medical care is granted to the whole of humanity and not just a small part. Until then, Kyler Cares stands in the gap with financial assistance programs.

DIABETIC RESOURCES + EDUCATION

Knowledge is crucial to positive health outcomes. We’re creating a space where you can learn more about type 1 diabetes and relevant industry resources. So, if you’re newly diagnosed, or have been living with T1D long term and are looking to learn more about the latest tech in management, we’ve got you!

CONNECTIONS + COMMUNITY

How can we best serve each other so that nontraditional networks of support and resource sharing are at the forefront of our management plans? We believe in building these networks both online and in real life, and imagine a world where we can go hand-in-hand towards the goals of satisfaction, joy, and optimal glucose management.

RESOURCES

There are lots of tools needed to manage type 1 diabetes, and accessing them can be overwhelming. To help out, we’ve compiled a digestible list of some of our favorite organizations working tirelessly to help people living with type 1 diabetes with access to tools, education, and support to share with you.

MEDICAL COSTS ARE MORE THAN DOUBLE

for people living with diabetes. On average, people diagnosed with diabetes spend 2x as much on medical costs than people who don’t.

LANGUAGE MATTERS

Latinos and Asians have the lowest health literacy rates, and low English proficiency in the United States. These two factors contribute to poor health outcomes.

BLACK CHILDREN & TECHNOLOGY

Black children are 3.6 times less likely to be prescribed an insulin pump than white children. Insulin pump therapy can contribute to lower A1C levels and fewer DKA episodes.
